Editorial Launch

Bauer Media Group brought the official Monster High magazine to Mexico as part of a global licensing push for Mattel’s wildly popular Monster High franchise. As the sole Art Director on a lean three-person launch team, I owned the entire creative foundation of the publication: developing the graphic guidelines for the Mexican edition and art directing the complete design of the first three issues, from cover to feature layouts. Working within one of Mattel’s most beloved licenses, I balanced brand fidelity with editorial functionality to deliver a publication that honored the franchise’s signature gothic-glam aesthetic while meeting the standards of one of the world’s largest magazine publishers.

My Role

As the sole Art Director, my responsibilities spanned the full creative lifecycle of the launch:

  • Developed the graphic guidelines establishing the visual language for the Mexican edition
  • Art directed and designed the first three issues end to end, from cover concepts to interior layouts
  • Ensured brand fidelity to the Monster High license while adapting the publication for the Mexican market
  • Served as the direct creative liaison to the editor and publisher, translating editorial needs into visual decisions throughout production
